OASL on Strong School Library Programs
Introduction:
In 2009, the Oregon State Legislature passed House Bill
2586, which passed into law a new
element in the Continuous Improvement Plans, whereby school districts
shall identify goals toward implementing a “strong school library
program”. The following resources were gathered to support school
districts in completing this new portion of their Continuous Improvement
Plans.

Questions to
Consider:
As you prepare to answer the "School Library
Program" portion of the district's Continuous Improvement Plan, you may
wish to consider the following questions:
-
What is the district doing to manage and staff a strong school library program?
-
How has the District articulated a plan for
providing K-12 library skills, information literacy, and integrated
technology instruction for all students?
-
How does the district ensure equitable
access for all students and staff to library resources and licensed
school librarians?
-
Describe how the district develops and
maintains current library collections of print and electronic resources
that support the curricula, accommodate diverse learning needs, and
encourage reading engagement.
-
How does the district library program
promote collaboration and staff development with a focus on information
literacy, reading appreciation and technology?
