- Are
You Talking Over Their ZZZZZ? Are They Listening and Learning? - Dr.
Thom Dramer
Explore how to keep learners involved,
listening and motivated! The effective educator and
leader have at their disposal a wide variety of tools.
Often the 'tools'
they use are instinctual or intuitive. When things go well,
all is well. Sometimes, however, things could go better
in one or more aspects of presenting to others. We often
literally, drive our audience to snores or tears when we
don't use effective tools. Over the past 30 years, we have
gained valuable insights into how people receive and process
information. We have learned the tools that motivate and
focus others and what, quite frankly, turns them off. We
have also learned how to present information in a far more
useful way - both the words we
use and the visuals we show others. These 'learnings,'
I simply call Tools. Those who have learned and applied
them report their effectiveness and efficiency has dramatically
improved. Dr. Dramer will engage you in some very meaningful,
practical, and enjoyable activities where you will learn
how to more effectively apply many of the skills you
already have and sharpen some that have begun to dull.
Dr. Thom Dramer's Educational Consultants Northwest's website
is http://www.educon-nw.com .
Besides consulting, he also is involved with teaching at
the graduate level at several colleges and universities.
He has received several awards that include: The Washington
State Award for Excellence in Education, 1991, PTA Outstanding
Service Award, 1993, and PTA Outstanding Principal of the
Year - Washington State Region 2 - Honorable Mention, 1993.

Keeping Learners Involved - Learn
How Brains are Wired and How to Learn - Dr. Thom
Dramer
Audience: K-Adult
Learn how to plan for, design, and administer an instructional
practice that recognizes how our brains are wired and how
we learn. Sometimes we train and teach small groups, large
groups, mid-size groups, committees, and groups of two or
three. When we use technology to assist us, it is critical
to apply key ideas about how the brain really works. If we
look at a typical person's brain, there are three key elements
worth knowing about how information gets in and is stored.
We now know people learn in essentially the same way, though
they have some difference.
You will learn how people learn and the kinds of things
humans learn: Concepts, Skills, and Dispositions. How these
are learned and communicated in different ways, how to deliver
them in less time with amazing retention, and how one might
assess whether they are learned well or not. We will also
discuss how to clearly identify your communication target
and implement a more effective communication path. Come use
practical tools to involve all learners all the time and
to get the best thinking from others at the time they are
needed instead of when it is too late.
See presenter info in morning session.
